The Subcandies were a Freakbeat-, 60's Garage-, Rhythm & Soul- and Paisley Psychedelica outfit- Band from Vienna, Austria. They were also featuring members of The Jaybirds such as Norb Payr and Bernhard Gold (BJ Gold).
Founded in 2003 they soon later released a limited to 300 copies only debut vinyl single. Their 2nd single followed in 2007 with BJ Gold at the vocals. Again only 300 copies were made. Both singles were sold out in the twinkling of an eye. After a short episode BJ Gold left the group and Norb Payr took over the vocals again. Their debut vinyl LP was published in 2008. Around the same time Mike Willow joined the band with his marvellous guitar play. Soon after that Norb Payr left the group. He was replaced by the popular and mystical underground Rockstar Ronnie 'Rocket' Urini, which naturally caused a change in the band`s music style.
Sometime in 2010/11 the band finally split up. It is said, drummer B.B. Kong took his 16-track analogue recorder and went to Africa for building up a recording studio, Norb started to write new songs for The Jaybirds, Katerina disappeared and Georg was found most of the time in Berlin.
The Subcandies were well known for their exciting live shows: Impressive singing, groovy beats, twangy guitar-riffs, a cool Fender Rhodes piano sound and breathless bass lines.
